Range

Find out all about the range of your plug-in hybrid vehicles

Numerous things can shape the electric  range of your plug-in hybrid vehicle, among them weather conditions as well as your driving style. Find the factors that influence the effectiveness of a plug-in hybrid vehicle’s battery.

Speed

Speed is the most impacting factor on the range of your plug-in hybrid vehicle. Use preferably electric mode at low speed. It is important to moderate the speed on motorways and expressways in order to preserve the range.

Driving behaviour and geography

Driving behaviour and geography has a major influence on the range of your plug-in hybrid vehicle. Eco-driving is enhanced with electric mode on vehicles. Smooth accelerations and use of recuperative braking can save up to 15% of your autonomy.

Thermal comfort and geography

Extreme heat or freezing cold affect the chemical reactions of the batteries. Range difference due to Heating can vary up to 35 % between spring and winter. Pre-conditioning your car is one of the most efficient lever to increase your range in winter and summer.

And if you switch to energy saving mode?

PUSH THE LIMITS WITH OUR TECHNOLOGY

Regenerative braking

Regenerative braking

Just brake to recharge the batteries

Thanks to our participation in Formula E and to our double title in Formula E, regenerative braking transforms the kinetic energy when you decelerate into electricity, thereby extending the range of your batteries. A simple push on the gear lever activates this function which lets you increase the car’s range by up to 20%.

Drive modes

Drive modes

Select the drive mode that suits you best

Our plug-in hybrids have four driving modes:

The HYBRID mode, activated by default, allows you to drive at certain times in electric mode and at other times in thermal mode. Useful in the city as well as on the motorway, it gives you optimum use of electric power.

The Zero Emission mode is ideal for urban travel. You can travel more than 75km (WLTP cycle depending on the model) without using a single drop of petrol. Absolute silence on board, exceptional responsiveness: experience new sensations.

Activate SPORT mode to unleash the potential of your DS E-TENSE. The combustion engine delivers its full power, assisted by the two electric motors. Acceleration, acceleration, acceleration: your driving pleasure is at its peak.

The 4X4 or 4WD mode (on the E-TENSE 4X4 version), reinforces traction on roads or difficult terrain. The power of the combustion engine and electric motors is transmitted evenly to all four wheels of the vehicle, greatly improving grip whether on wet, muddy, snowy or winding roads.

E-SAVE function

E-SAVE function

Save electricity for later

The E-SAVE function saves electrical energy in the batteries for future use. This mode is especially useful when you’re expecting a restricted traffic zone, reserved solely for “clean” vehicles.

The map that’s available through the touchscreen of New DS 7 and DS 9 E-TENSE shows you in real time the limit of where you can drive in electric mode as well as charging points.

Charging

It's always the right time to recharge

There are different ways to charge your electric car battery. Depending on the charging method you choose, the charging time will be shorter or longer.

You can choose to charge at your usual parking place. At night at home, or during the day at work for example. On longer journeys, stop at a fast charging station for a short break. This way, you can recover 80% of your range in 30 minutes.

MyDS application

An app that controls everything

Control your plug-in hybrid vehicle from the MyDS smartphone application.

Information about range

With the MyDS smartphone app, you can see the current range of your plug-in hybrid. When your vehicle is charging, you can see how fast it’s charging and remaining charge time.

Remote charging

With control of remote charging you can use the MyDS app to commence charging or initiate a programmed charge. A programmed charge is particularly useful for organising charges when energy rates are most beneficial.

Remote heating or cooling

Configuring the cockpit’s thermal pre-set function enables you to programme heating or cooling. This function is very important for preserving battery range if the vehicle is being charged.

Freedom

Discover the benefits of a plug-in hybrid vehicle

A cleaner, better performing vehicle

Our plug-in hybrids are efficient and versatile: zero emissions in 100% electric mode and low fuel consumption on the combined cycle. And all without compromising driving enjoyment.

Towns open up for you

Opting for a plug-in hybrid gives you freedom when driving around towns, even when traffic is restricted.

It's own tax band

A plug-in hybrid means savings right from the moment it’s first registered. During the sale of a new plug-in hybrid, a bonus is effectively given. A PHEV can also be exempt from car tax.*

*Depending on local tax laws.

Use less fuel

Due to its electric motors, a plug-in hybrid vehicle uses less fuel than its internal combustion engine equivalent. You’ll therefore be able to drive for longer distances in your plug-in hybrid DS 4 E-TENSE, New DS 7 E-TENSE or DS 9 E-TENSE.
